Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills in the area of design and reliability assessment of one-, two- and three-dimensional structures of transport constructions, engineering structures and industrial buildings under fire load. Student has to obtain and prove an adequate general overview of solved problems. Student also has to work out the individual project related to the scope of the thesis.

Summary

The analysis of building elements and structures response to the fire load, simplified and more accurately methods for determination of fire resistance, steady-state and transient thermal fields, solution of the stress-strain state and fire resistance of elements and structures.

EN 1992-1-2, Eurocode 2: Design of concrete structures, part 1-2: General rules – Structural fire design, CNI, 2006. 3. EN 1993-1-2 Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures, part 1-2: General rules – Structural fire design, CNI, 2006. 4. EN 1995-1-2 Eurocode 5: Design of timber structures, part 1-2: General rules – Structural fire design, CNI, 2006.

Subject syllabus:

General scope of the course: Fire resistance and its limit states, building structures under fire loading, fire curves, fire models. General principles for design of building structures under fire loading. Assessment methods for fire resistance, limit states, accidental design situations. Concrete and reinforcement properties at high temperature. Fire design of concrete structures. Properties of structural steel at high temperature. Fire design of steel and steel-concrete structures. Properties of timber at high temperature. Fire design of timber structures. The effect of fire protections on fire resistance of steel structures. Individual project: The topic and the form of an individual project will be chosen by the teacher considering the scope of the thesis.
