Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills in the area of design, reliability assessment and realization of constructions in areas affected by underground mining. Student has to obtain and prove an adequate general overview of solved problems. Student also has to work out the individual project related to the scope of the thesis.

Summary

This course introduces the student to the principles of underground mining in relation to the building structures and to the underground mining effects to the surface by means of subsidence parameters. According to ČSN 73 0039, the classification of construction sites is presented and the conditions for the structures are specified in terms of given parameters. The course involves also design of the building structures depending on rigid, flexible and combined objects. Other topics are the effects of continuous deformations of the terrain, the friction in the footing bottom, increased soil pressure, application of slide joints, the effects of slope and curvature of the terrain on rigid and flexible constructive systems, masonry and panel objects' protection, reinforced concrete and steel structures, industrial structures and crane tracks, concrete and steel bridges, roads and railways, pylons, water structures, rectification of objects, strengthening of structures.

Subject syllabus:

General scope of the course: Mining conditions, exploration works, construction site in undermined area. Design of structures in undermined areas. Requirements for frameworks, masonry, industrial, tower and bridge structures. Requirements for surface communications, railroads and sidings, drains and sewage systems, penstocks, water structures, pylon and underground lines, underground objects. Foundations in undermined areas – single footings, strip, grid and slab foundations, deep foundations. Rectification and reconstruction of the object in undermined area. Sliding joints and rheological sliding joints. Action on structures due to mining effects (denivelation, curvature of the terrain, relative deformation of the terrain). Procedure of internal forces calculations and arrangements for their elimination. Structural arrangements and design requirements concerning the objects effected by mining effects. Individual project: The topic and the form of an individual project will be chosen by the teacher considering the scope of the thesis.
