After completing this subject, students will be able to understand and apply the following skills and topic areas: - design and assessment of reinforced concrete elements and structures; - project documentation , plan of shape and reinforcement.

Summary

1. Principle, utilization and history of concrete. Reliability and limit states. 2. Material characteristics of concrete and reinforcing steel. Stress-strain diagrams. Creep and shrinkage. 3. Bending moment bearing capacity. Slab, beam, T beam. 4. Shear force bearing capacity, strut and tie model. 5. Compression with small and large eccentricity. Interactive diagram. 6. Serviceability limit state, strain/deflection, cracks. Detaining of reinforcement. 7. Two way slabs and continuous slab. Simplified calculation of internal forces. 8. Two-way walls and wall beams. Simplified analysis of internal forces. 9. Reliability of foundation structure and subsoil. 10. Design of plain concrete and reinforced foot foundation. Effect of eccentric load. Strip foundation. 11. Monolithic frame structures. Static analysis and design of particular elements. 12. Prefabricated structures. Rigid and hinge joints. Static analysis. 13. Construction of frame building – examples. Reinforcement configuration. 14. Life cycle of concrete structures. Reinforcement and concrete corrosion. Repairs.
