Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The goal is to clarify the basic principles and methods of chemical analysis of structural materials and their application to building materials. Students will gain knowledge on methods of chemical analysis, with both traditional and modern techniques of optical, laser and electron microscopy, the basic procedures of image processing and analysis, methods for determining particle size and shape, porosity and pore distribution in the material, methods of assessing the quality of the surface with thermal and spectroscopic methods for identification of the components of the material and non-destructive method to visualize the internal structure and material failure.

Other requirements

At least 70% attendance at the exercises. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides to recognize the reason for the excuse). Requirements can be specified and supplemented by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. Continuous submission of tasks assigned to the exercises at the dates set by the teacher. Tasks assigned on the exercises must be hand in within the dates set by the teacher.
