Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The goal is to clarify the basic principles and methods of chemical analysis of structural materials and their application to building materials. Students will gain knowledge on methods of chemical analysis, with both traditional and modern techniques of optical, laser and electron microscopy, the basic procedures of image processing and analysis, methods for determining particle size and shape, porosity and pore distribution in the material, methods of assessing the quality of the surface with thermal and spectroscopic methods for identification of the components of the material and non-destructive method to visualize the internal structure and material failure.

Subject syllabus:
The subject is focused on the analysis of building materials. Students gain practical experience with selected methods of analysis, containing:
- thebasic principles and methods of chemical analysis of structural materials and their application to building materials,
- methods of chemical analysis, with both traditional and modern techniques of optical, laser and electron microscopy,
- the basic procedures of image processing and analysis,
- methods for determining particle size and shape, porosity and pore distribution in the material,
- methods of assessing the quality of the surface,
- thermal and spectroscopic methods for identification of the components of the material,
- non-destructive method to visualize the internal structure and material failure.
The theoretical knowledge is supplemented by examples of practical applications.
