Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic properties of building materials, their composition, structure and also with their physico-mechanical properties. At the same time, they get to know with building material binders and the foundations of the most common building materials such as concrete or ceramics.

Summary

The subject represents one of bases of study on FAST VSB-TUO. Students obtain basic information focused on properties of building materials, their composition, structure and physical-mechanical properties. Next part represents binders and silicate construction materials, especially concrete technology and ceramic.

Subject syllabus:

Students will learn about the basic physical-mechanical properties, composition and structure of building materials. The emphasis in the subject is also placed on sustainable development with the maximization of the use of rapidly renewable sources of materials and recycled materials in accordance with the concept of circular economy, students are also introduced to completely new materials. Part of the subject is also familiarization with the binders of building materials, including alternative ones, and basic terms from the field of the most common building silicate structural materials, especially from the field of concrete or ceramics.
