Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to give students a comprehensive overview of the properties, method of manufacture, processing and use of the building materials in construction. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in the field of evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of important groups of building materials, in the area of design of composition and production of building materials and the choice of suitable materials for use in civil engineering.

Summary

Předmět Stavební hmoty přímo navazuje na předmět Chemie a stavební hmoty. V rámci přednášek i cvičení se zaměřuje na prohloubení získaných znalostí a praktického využití základních silikátových stavebních materiálech, jako jsou betony, keramika či skla. Rovněž se zaměřuje na další běžné a významné materiály, jako jsou dřevo, kovy či polymery. Pozornost je věnována také vybraným významným skupinám stavebních materiálů jako jsou izolační materiály, lehké stavební hmoty, žárovzdorné materiály,kompozitní materiály, nátěrové systémy, využití druhotných surovin či nanotechnologií ve stavebnictví.

The minimum attendance rate required is 70% or above. Absence of up to 30% must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher. Requirements will be specified by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. Submission of assignments within the deadlines set by the teacher is required for credit obtaining.

Subject syllabus:

• Basic mechanical properties of building materials. Strength, modulus of elasticity, durability and technological properties. • Stone of building. Aggregates for construction purposes (without geology, structures, types, characteristics and uses, building testing, criteria) • Ceramics (the opposite of a brick shale, but everything else) and refractory materials. • Iron and non-ferrous metals. • Glass. • Polymers and asphalts. • Isolation Part 1 - Waterproofing materials. • Isolation Part 2 - Heat and sound insulation. • Timber and wood-based materials. • Composites and nanocomposites. • Wastes. • Coatings. • Adhesives and sealants.-
