Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with polymeric materials and their applications in the construction industry and beyond. Students should be able after the course understand the principle behavior of polymeric materials and know the advantages and limitations of using these materials for specific applications in practice.

Summary
Předmět podává ucelené informace o polymerních materiálech používaných ve stavebním průmyslu. Zaměřuje se jak na pochopení základních principů ohledně chování těchto materiálů z hlediska chemického složení, vnitřní struktury, či morfologie, tak i na vlastnosti polymerů z hlediska jejich fyzikálně-mechanických vlastností a na možnosti jejich zpracování a výroby v návaznosti na jejich využití ve stavebnictví. Studenti se v rámci předmětu rovněž seznámí s nejvíce používanými polymery a jejich nejčastějšími aplikacemi.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester
Students work out and present their semestral work. The study results are verified both in written and oral form.

The minimum attendance rate required is 70% or above. Absence of up to 30% must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher.
Requirements will be specified by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. Submission of assignments within the deadlines set by the teacher is required for credit obtaining.

Subject syllabus:
Lectures: introduction, definitions, terminology. The formation of macromolecular substances. Polymer structure and morphology, polymer crosslinking. Polymer behavior. Distribution of polymers. Polymer Composites. Properties and usage of conventional polymers in building practice.
