Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will theoretically acquire knowledge about new, progressive building materials and their use. Practical skills will be gained during laboratory testing of the properties of these building materials.

Summary

The students are acquainted with the problems of development of modern building materials, with the issue of verification of their physico - mechanical properties and durability characteristics. Particular attention is paid to material compatibility in applications and durability of these materials.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Students work out and present their semestral work. The study results are verified both in written and oral form.

Other requirements

The minimum attendance rate required is 70% or above. Absence of up to 30% must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher. Requirements will be specified by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. Submission of assignments within the deadlines set by the teacher is required for credit obtaining.

Subject syllabus:

• Introduction to the problem. Legislation and normalization. Life cycle of products. • Overview of significant modern building materials and their basic properties. • High strength structural materials. • Glasses, ceramics. • FRC. • Refractory and heat-resistant construction materials. • Construction materials for use in the chemical and energy industries. • Developmental insulating materials. • Materials for the protection of surfaces of building structures. • Special composite and nanocomposite building materials. • Special materials and environmental impact assessment.
