Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Objective of the course in terms of learning outcomes and competences is to provide students with the basics to all kind of geotechnical constructions excavated from the surface, or built on the surface and geotechnical structures that are indispensable part of them. Students acquires sufficient knowledge to be familiar in the topic of geotechnical constructions, that are necessary for their professional work and further development of acquired knowledge by self-study from professional literature.

Summary

The content of the course are the next topics: terminology, classification of geotechnical constructions, in detail there are on display geotechnical constructions excavated from the surface (pits, notches, trenches, troughs), built on the surface (embankments, dams, dumps, cushions, backfills. Attention is given to the all kind of geotechnical circumstances under which the constructions are realized and further to the methods and technologies of their implementation, and to the necessary geotechnical structures, which are indispensable part of them.

Lectures: 1. Introduction, definition of terms geotechnical engineering and geotechnical construction, geotechnical construction division. 2. IG survey for geotechnical engineering. 3. Excavating geotechnical works - pits, trenches and cuts, dewatering wells. 4. Stability of the pit walls and pit floor of geotechnical structures, principles of design calculations. 5. Filled geotechnical structures - road embankments and water dikes, waste dumps, waste dumps, dumps, etc. 6. Compaction, consolidation and reinforcement - reinforcement earth retaining structures. 7. Principles of embankment design - subsoil bearing capacity, embankment body , retaining structure design. 8. Ground treatment technologies and ground feature amendment technologies. 9. Redevelopment of land slide areas, embankment slide splope and foundation subground, etc. 10. Earthworks and earthandling machinery. 11. Modeling the behavior of geotechnical structures in the time of design, implementation and maintenance. 12. Monitoring of geotechnical engineering. 13. Environmental impacts of geotechnical constructions. Training 1. Design of embedment depth of a not braced sheet wall and checking its load capacity. 2. Design of embedment depth of a not braced sheet wall and checking its load capacity on conditions:with ground water a) wall toe is embeded in water impervious ground b) the groundwater can flow under the wall toe. 3. Design of embedment depth of a sheet wall anchored in one horizon without any groundwater 4. Design of an embankment. 5. Design of a slope embankment armoured with geonets. 6. Reinstatement design of of a landslide failure.
