Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of this course is to spread information and practical skills in the areas of soil properties, methods of determining fundamental characteristics of the subsoil road. After graduation road and geotechnical laboratory students gain skills in basic types of testing, evaluation and application of results. In laboratory and field tests carried out in practice such as: soil: a modified Proctor compaction test, California Bearing Ratio, light dynamic plate, static loading plate, dynamic penetration test, asphalt: determination of needle penetration, determination of the softening point-ring and ball method, pendulum skid tester TRRL.

Summary
The course deals with the soil water regime in the road, the effects of freezing. Another area of interest of course is the issue of stability embankment and cuts, the possibility of mathematical modeling of the stability issues and principles and methods of geotechnical monitoring in road construction. Practical measurements complement theoretical knowledge of how other types of nondestructive testing.
