Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim is to cover a wide range of topics (see annotation) so we approached students with basic terminology, rules and methods in the given subject and their practical application.

Summary

Definition of model and purpose of modelling, types of models (physical models, mathematical models – deterministic and stochastic models). Numerical methods – FEM, FDM, governing equations of hydrogeological processes. Groundwater flow modelling. Conceptual model and grid design. Boundary and initial conditions, sources snd sinks. Special needs for transient simulations. Inverse modelling. Contaminant transport modelling, transport processes, hydrochemical models. Quality assurance of models – sensitivity analysis, calibration, verification. Practical applications on typical hydrogeological problems.
