Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the subject is to teach students, according to the type of engineering activities, to identify geotechnical hazards, which can influence especially the technology of construction and lifetime of various types of structures.

Teaching methods

Individual consultations

Summary

Specific sources of geotechnical risks in construction stem from the character of the construction structure and the heterogeneity and the usual anisotropy of the rock environment. Students will learn to assess the geotechnical risks qualitatively and quantitatively. The greatest risks result from activities in underground construction where the volume of the rock mass is larger than is usual with other types of construction and, in addition, as a rule, a greater variety of encountered geological conditions. Students will acquaint themselves in particular with geotechnical problems in areas with complex geological conditions, construction in rock masses with disturbance zones affected by slope movements, masses with complex hydrogeological conditions and masses with dangerous emissions of gases or anthropogenically affected.
