Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The foundation of the building at present has to include a wide range of knowledge from the area of the structure of the lower structure and the connection to the underlying rock massif. The trend of setting up objects on less suitable or unsuitable base soil is clearly evident in urbanly developed countries and cities. The aim of this course is to offer an unconventional view of new procedures in the field of building establishment and possibilities of elimination of unfavorable subsoil for the life of the building.

Subject syllabus:

1. Research for construction purposes, classification for founding. Categorization of foundation conditions, factors determining the design of foundations, 2. Shallow foundations, deep foundations. Calculation of bearing capacity and deformation, conditions of foundation, foundation in special conditions. 3. Methods of modification of sub-base properties, embankments and control of their compaction, foundation pit, monitoring of foundations and sub-bases. 4. "Foundation-subbase" interaction. Strength and deformation properties of the rocks in relation to the foundation base and its subsoil. 5. Stress in the subsoil, methods of solution, determining factors. Influence of horizontal forces and forces acting within the continuum, surface surcharge, original stress, stress under deep foundations. 6. Settlement of rocks and soils under the foundations. The theory of soil consolidation. Limiting states of foundations. 7. Construction pit and their stability. Earth pressures on the structure. Dependent pressure method. 8. Methods of calculating the anchor of building pits. Monitoring the underlying behaviour.
