The aim of the subject Buildings Roofing is to gain knowledge about the issue of flat, sloping and steep roofs, in terms of their design, construction and materials, as well as in terms of building physics.

Other requirements
At least 70% attendance at the exercises. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused
and the apology must be accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides to recognize the reason
for the excuse). Tasks assigned on the exercises must be hand in within the dates set by the
teacher.
Requirements for the student in the case of an individual study plan: At least 50% participation in exercises, submission of all required programs, writing of the test.

Syllabus of lecture:
1. Introduction. Basic requirements for roofs. Division of roofs. Roof drainage introduction, outside roof drainage.
2. Inside roof drainage. Sewerage systems used for roof drainage gravitational and vacuum. Determination of the size of roof drains and vertical rainwater pipes. Principles for roof drainage.
3. Layers of roof cover. Basic layers bearing stratum and damp course (covering). Coating and folded damp courses (coverings).
4. Supplementary layers of roof cover protective damp course, auxiliary damp course, vapour-tight layer, expansion layer, thermal insulation layer, slope layer, footing, etc.
5. Flat roofs general characteristics, division. Single-skinned flat roofs unventilated and ventilated. Thermal technology of flat roofs.
6. Functional roofs walking and trafficable roofs, roof gardens.
7. Light flat roofs. Inverse roofs.
8. Terraces, loggie and balconies.
9. Double-skinned flat roofs general characteristics, design principles. Multi-skinned flat roofs. Details of flat roofs.
10. Realization of flat roofs. Failures of flat roofs.
11. Failures of flat roofs.
12. Sloping and steep roofs general characteristics. Roof trusses division. Wooden roof trusses rafter and purlin system.
13. Wooden roof trusses purlin system. Historical roof trusses. Reinforced concrete and steel roof trusses. Thermal technology of sloping roofs.

15. Roofs in extreme climatic conditions. Attic solutions. Use of alternative energy sources in roof construction.
Syllabus of seminar:
1. Solution of drainage of sloping and steep roofs determining the slope of the roof planes, solving their intersection. Design of gutters their type, location, gradient and size. Design of vertical rainwater pipes their location and size. Entering the program no. 1.
2. Solution of drainage of flat roofs design of drainage of flat roof using the method of varying roof slope, location of roof drains, determination of their sizes. Entering the program no. 2.
3. Design of single-skinned unventilated flat roof composition of roof cover, thermal-technical assessment using computational programs TEPLO 2015 and AREA 2015. Entering the program no. 3.
4. Solution of details of single-skinned unventilated flat roof.
5. Solution of details of single-skinned unventilated flat roof.
6. Design of double-skinned ventilated flat roof composition of lower and upper roof cover, design of ventilated air layer. Entering the program no. 4.
7. Design of single-skinned ventilated flat roof solution of details.
8. Thermal-technical assessment of double-skinned ventilated flat roof using computational programs TEPLO 2015, MEZERA 2015 and AREA 2015.
9. Design of composition of the inverse roof. Design of composition of the walking and trafficable roofs and roof gardens. Design of composition of light single-skinned roof. Entering the program no. 5.
10. Solution of roof with bearing structure made of roof girders. Entering the program no. 6.
11. Design of composition of the sloping roof with thermal insulation. Thermal-technical assessment of roof cover using computational programs TEPLO 2015 and AREA 2015. Entering the program no. 7.
12. Design of composition of the sloping roof with thermal insulation. Solution of details.
