Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Lecture series on the use of materials in architecture assumes an interpretation of the nature of the material from the perspective of architects, designers and conservationists. Lectures will be held also called experts to give students a broad overview of the work of building materials, with their strengths, weaknesses as well as their use in connection with architectural details. Cooperation with the Department of building materials on the subject seems to be very useful, especially in the interpretation of the destruction, the statement of degradation processes of construction materials and methods for their identification. It describes the problems of degradation and durability of building stone, different types of aggregates, concrete, adhesives, ceramics, wood and glass. Theoretical knowledge is supplemented by examples of practical applications. A substantial part of the course then also discusses the material in the interior and the current trends of its development.

Summary

The ways in which the material is used in architecture is crucial for the project's end result. In the course, the materials will be solved not only as structural elements, but mainly as materials used in final facing form. For architects, material expertise is extremely important because it can only be properly designed and used on a comprehensive basis. After completing the course Material in Architecture, students will gain certainty in the design of used materials both in the interior of buildings and on their exterior.
