Lectures
Summary
A cycle focused on the development of European architecture from antiquity to the Middle Ages. In individual lectures, students will learn the basic characteristics of building styles, their stylistic development, including regional specifics. The lecture will focus on the key architectural works of the epochs. The main emphasis will be put on the transformation and development of the sacral space of the Christian temple from the ancient Christian basilicas to the Gothic cathedrals. Students will get an idea of transformation of expressive means of architecture, development of solution of structural problems and use of building materials; they will also have the ability to take this knowledge into account in the independent interpretation of building monuments from this period;
