Summary

A cycle focused on the development of European architecture from the Middle Ages to the end of the 16th century. In the individual lectures, students will learn the basic characteristics of Czech Gothic, Italian Renaissance and Renaissance architecture in the Czech lands. The lecture will focus on key architectural works of these styles and their main protagonists. The main emphasis will be put on the transformation of lifestyle and the development of the main architectural themes - the transformation of the sacral space of the Christian temple and the residential palace architecture. Students will get an idea of transformation of expressive means of architecture, development of solution of structural problems and use of building materials; they will also have the ability to take this knowledge into account in the independent interpretation of building monuments from this period;
