Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The ways in which the material is used in architecture is crucial for the project's end result. Materials will be solved within the course not only as structural elements but primarily as materials used in the final facing form. For architects, expertise is in extremely important because they can only be properly designed and used on their comprehensive basis. Cooperation with the Department of Building Materials and the Department of Geotechnics on the subject program seems to be very suitable, especially in the area of interpretation destruction of materials, overview of degradation processes of building materials and methods for their identification. The issue is described degradation and durability of building stone, various types of aggregates, concretes, binders, ceramics, wood and glass. Theoretical knowledge is examples of practical applications. A substantial part of the lectures also discusses interior material and current trends in its development. After completing the subject Material in Architecture, students will gain certainty in the design of used materials both in the interior of buildings and on the their exterior.

Summary

The lecture series on the use of material in architecture assumes an explanation of the nature of the material from the perspective of the architect, designer and conservationist. The lectures will also be led by invited experts to provide students with a broad overview of the use of building materials, their advantages, shortcomings and their use in connection with architectural details.
