Summary

Finite element method; fundamentals of numerical modelling of structures; utilisation of computers; types of boundary conditions and loads; bar constructions; introduction to 2D structures modelling.

Compulsory literature:

O. C. Zienkiewicz: The Finite Element Method in Engineering Science, McGraw- Hill, London, 1977 or newer.

1. Introduction. Basics of software package use. 2. Truss girder. 3. Simple frame. 4. Frame, frame with hinges. Changes of models, copying of parts. 5. Load combinations. 6. Special possiblitities: holes, excentricities. 7. Spatial frame. 8. Spatial frame - complex case. 9. Introdution to planar structures. 10. Plane stress problem. 11. Plane strain problem. 12. Slabs. 13. Shells. 14. Test.
