Types of non-linear problems (constitutive non-linearity, large deformations, non-linear behaviour of systems), methods for solution for non-linear problems.

At least 70% attendance at the exercises. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides to recognize the reason for the excuse). Tasks assigned on the exercises must be hand in within the dates set by the teacher.

Subject syllabus:

1. Non-linear problems in structural mechanics: introduction.. 2. Solution of on-linear equations. 3. Elastic-plastic behaviour: flow rules, conditions, hardening. 4. Common plasticity conditions (Tresca, von Mises, Drucker-Prager) 5. Plasticity conditions for concrete: Willam-Warnke, Chen-Chen 6. Elastic-plastic analysis of reinforced concrete structures. 7. Modelling of other materials. 8. Elastic-plastic analysis and design codes. 9. Geometrical non-linearity: introduction, application to elastic stability of columns. 10. Large deformations: frames. 11. Large deformations: initial inperfactions. 12. Large deformations: computational strategies. 13. Large deformations and design codes. 14. Combination of geometric and material non-linearity.
