Summary

In this subject is focused on use of the Finite Element Method for numerical modeling of problems of statics, non-linear statics and dynamics in the civil engineering. Main principles of heat transfer analysis in civil engineering problems are also given. The practical part of the subject is based on solution of sample problems with use of software.

At least 70% attendance at the exercises. Absence, up to a maximum of 30%, must be excused and the apology must be accepted by the teacher (the teacher decides to recognize the reason for the excuse). Tasks assigned on the exercises must be hand in within the dates set by the teacher.

Lectures 1. Introduction, basic of the method (repeating) 2. Computational models of structures 3. Plane problem: variants, methods of solution 4. Finite elements for plane problems 5. Slabs: thin and thick slabs, methods of solution 6. Finite elements for slabs 7. Shells 8. Volumes. Soubsoil modelling. 9. Frames and beams. 11. Linear stability. 12. Other types of finite element analyses: dynamics, thermal problems. 13. Non-linear mechanics 14. Overview of comon finite element packages Seminaries 1. Introduction to finite element modelling (used software overview) 2. Available documentation, additional information resources 3. Modelling of 2D problems 4. Analusis of plane structure 5. Analysis of slab 6. Comparison of Kirchhoff and Mindlin theory results 7. Shell 8. Modelling of volumes with 3D elements 9. Subsoil modelling. 10. Combination of 2D and 3D elements. 11.
