Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The student would know how chosen machine defects could be indicated in the vibration spectrum. The students would be able to measure spectrum, analyze it, and on the base of this analysis, they would be able to identify the conditions of machines and identify common types of defects. In case of a defect, they would be able to assess the severity of defect and decide about appropriate action (planned shutdown, instantaneous shutdown, etc.) and about the necessary procedures (replacement of bearings, balance, or the alignment of the machine, etc.). Student would be able to apply the method of operating balancing in one plane.

Summary

This subject deals with monitoring and vibration diagnostic of rotating machinery. Students will become acquaintant with instrumentation and software used in condition monitoring and vibration diagnostics and with basics of signal processing. The main part of this module is focused on description of the common failures, which can occur on rotating machinery and on their identification from the measured vibration spectra or time history.
