Summary
Předmět je zaměřen na historii vzniku a vývoje latinského písma, základní typografická a kompoziční pravidla a jejich použití v praxi. Důležitou součástí je i přehled historických i současných reprodukčních technik včetně předtiskové přípravy s důrazem na ofset a digitální tisk. Jsou představeny zákonitosti tvorby knihy a proces jejího vzniku – grafický návrh, DTP, tisk a finální zpracování.

Subject syllabus:
1. Terminology of fonts (basic terms, scriptures)
2. Font division (industry standard ON 881101, font measurement)
3. Origin and development of the scriptures (from the first records of ideas, the development of the Latin until the Carolingian Renaissance)
4. Font in the Gothic period
5. The scripture in the Renaissance, the invention of printing in Europe
6. Development of handwritten Latin after the onset of printing
7. Scripture in Baroque and Classicism
8. Fonts of the 19th and 20th centuries
9. Patterns of text composition (format, text placement, text alignment ...)
10. Basic typographic rules
11-13. Ways of printing, press preparation (photosetting, offset, four-color printing, color models, autotype, spring ...)
14. Graphic design and production of books
