The aim of the Foundations of Psychology course is to equip students with the information and skills to: - Can define the subject of psychology and its anchoring within related disciplines, - The student will be able to define areas and topics of psychology relevant to his/her profession; - Can briefly define the most important psychological paradigms, their sources and principles

Summary

Student will have an overview of the basic areas of the human psyche and its effects on communication through design, gets an insight into communication processes within the dyada and in group communication, will be able to recognize and actively handle different types of stress situations, will be able to apply the principles of psychohygiene in fulfilling their profession.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction to the study of psychology: the subject of psychology and its anchorage within related disciplines. 2. Main psychological trends: psychoanalysis and follow-up, behaviorism, Gestalt psychology, humanistic trends, cognitive psychology, systemic directions, integrative approaches. 3. Cognitive processes: perception, attention, imagination and imagination 4. Cognitive processes: memory, learning, thinking and speech. 5. Emotions: definitions; emotions like body process, design and emotion. 6. Emotions: types of emotions; the proportion of emotions in decision making. 7. Intelligence: approaches to intelligence, types of intelligence, its measurement, intelligence and creativity. 8. Personality: definition, personality structure and temperament in biopsychosocial context, personality development. 9. Personality typology in main psychological directions, defense mechanisms and their functions. 10. Motivation and will: definition of terms, types of motivation, application of motivation in human behavior. 11. Communication: verbal, nonverbal, paraveral component, models of communication, interpersonal relations. 12. Small groups: group roles, group dynamics, group communication. 13–14. Stress situations, stress theory, psychohygiene and its principles.
