Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the subject is parctical managing of mechanical quantities measurement methods. Students will be able correctly use a type of measurement equipment in accordance with the type of the problem.They will be able to carry out common vibration and noise measurements and will be acquainted with the principle and purpose of some more complex diagnostic methods - operational deflection shapes measurement, experimental and operational modal analysis.

Summary

The subject is focused on practical management of methods of mechanical quantities measurement and equipment used for these measurements. Methods used in common operational practise are introduced.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Students elaborate measurement protocols. Correct elaborating of a protocol proves managing of the problematics.

Subject syllabus:

1. Basic concepts of technical measurements, electrical measurements of mechanical quantities, proximity probes, velometers, accelerometers, single-use measurement equipment. 2. Frequency analysis, dual-channel analyzer, aliasing and leakage errors. 3. Operational deflection shapes measurement. 4. Experimental and operational modal analysis. 5. Measurement of properties of low-frequency amplifier. 6. Experimental evaluation of validity of rules for summation of coherent and noncoherent acoustic signals. Demonstration of beat phenomena. 7. Measurement of directional properties of noise sources. Measurement of the overall level and octave analysis of the noise using sound level meter. 8. Octave, one-third octave and FFT analysis of noise. 9. Evaluation of acoustic power of the noise source from acoustic pressure level measurements.
