Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

After passage of the lectures and practical training from the subject Basics of Mechanics the student will be able to solve the basic problems from Statics such as the equilibrium, resultant or equivalence of the force systems, determination of the mass centre of lines, areas and volumes, creation of free body diagram and reaction solution in the joints, drawing the shear and moment diagrams in case of straight beams, the calculations with assumption of passive resistances – various types of frictions. In the part Kinematics will students get familiar with the kinematical dependences in the motion of mass point, body and system of bodies. The problems of straight-line motion and curvilinear motion of the mass point, and translational and rotational motion of body and kinematic parameters of system of bodies will be solved. The student will be able to solve the problems dealing with the interaction of kinematic variables and forces in third main chapter – Dynamics. The mass points, bodies and systems of bodies will be again taken into the account and the distances, velocities, accelerations will be calculated and forces as the cause of motional state change will be observed.

Teaching methods

Summary

The subject acquaints students with the basic terms, principles and approaches of the mechanics of rigid bodies. Students acquaints with the term force, learn to solve the resultant force and force equilibrium problems. In dynamics the students acquaint with the basic quantities of the motion and the relations among them, with the term degree of freedom. They learn to investigate the motion of particles, bodies and mechanisms. They acquaint with the basic relationship between the motion and the forces as its cause.
