Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Outline principle of unit force method and classify advantages and disadvantages at statically determinate also indeterminate structures. Define advantages of the unit force method for plane trusses (determinate and also indeterminate). Solve basal cross-section characteristics coupled torsion of straight beam necessary for warping computing . Classify basic boundary conditions of the coupled torsion of straight beam. Clarify essential matrix equation of buckling for systems discretized by FEM. Outline fundamental nonlinearities and methods for its solution in statics.

Summary

The method of unit forces, derivation of equations. Solution of displacement and rotation of link and plane truss displacement. Solution of statically indeterminate trusses and frames. Constraint equations. Coupled torsion, derivation of differential equations, cross-section characteristics. Boundary conditions and their application, sectional warping. Buckling solved by FEM, geometric stiffness matrix of link and beam. Non-linear buckling, arc-length method. Eurocodes for steel structures
