### Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students obtain the knowledge of application of conservation laws and force balance in case of fluids at rest and in motion. They will realize simple experiments to understand the theory. They will be able to solve the fluid flow mechanics problems, pressures and pressure forces in case of steady and unsteady flow.

### Summary

Hydromechanics deals with the forces balance in fluids at rest as well as in motion. Generally valid laws from mechanics are applied, i.e. force balance and momentum balance, law of momentum change, law of preserving mass and energy. Hydrostatics takes care about pressure and pressure forces calculations during fluid at rest and relative motion. Hydrodynamics investigates steady and unsteady flow of ideal and viscous fluids in pipe, liquid discharge from a tank through pipes and holes, hydrodynamic pumps, body drag forces and other applications.

### Subject syllabus:

1 Basic concepts of fluid mechanics, physical properties of fluids 2 Pressure and pressure forces the liquid at rest, Euler's equation of hydrostatics, Pascal law and its application 3 Compressive strength of flat and curved surfaces, floatation, Archimedes' law 4 Fuids in relative calm 5 Introduction to fluid flow, continuity equation and Bernoulli's equation for ideal fluid flow 6 Flow of real fluids, the Navier-Stokes equations, Bernoulli's equation, liquid in a gravitational field 7 Measurement of pressure and flow in pipes 8 Steady flow in pipes, laminar flow in a narrow slit, laminar and turbulent flow in pipes of circular cross section 9 Hydraulic friction and local resistance, the calculation of hydraulic pipes, characteristic lines, the graphic solution 10 flow throuhg orifice, the liquid discharge through large rectangular hole in side wall of the container, emptying of containers 11 Unsteady flow of an incompressible fluid pipeline, hydraulic shock 12 Bernouliho equation for the rotating channel centrifugal pump characteristic pumping system 13 Force effects of flowing liquids on surfaces and body, body wrap 14 Flow in open channels, the physical similarity
