Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

In this course students learn the technique of pumping equipment. The attention is focused mainly on the hydrodynamic pumps. The aim is to understand the basic function of the pump's behavior in different operating conditions, cavitation, radial and axial force characteristics of the pump. The course is also focused on the principles of design of main pump parts (impeller, coils, distributors), including the use of numerical modeling of flow.

Summary

In this course students learn the technique of pumping equipment. Subject includes both theoretical and computational part. The attention is focused on pump parameters, typical features of the theoretical and actual characteristics of pumps, their changes with the operating parameters. Attention is paid to selection of a pump for the specified hydraulic system, control of the pump performance, definition of NPSH, pump cavitation, the basic components and constructions of pumps, typing and standardization of pumps. The laboratory work is aimed to investigation of pump characteristic curve, and also characteristics of two pumps of the same type in parallel and serial cooperation.
