Summary
The course deals with the pipe flow and application of pumps as a source of
pressure for liquids transport. Basic concepts of positive displacement and
kinetic pumps are explained as well as their typical properties and field of
application. Operation and control of pumps is explained. Attention is also
focused on cavitation in pumps, determination of net positive suction head and operational parameters, typical pump constructions, pump classification, main concept of pumping stations design, etc. Exercises are aimed to practical solution of fluid transport problems using EXCEL.

Subject syllabus:
The course deals with the pipe flow, solution of various pipe flow problems and application of pumps as a source of pressure for liquids transport. Basic concepts of positive displacement and kinetic pumps are explained as well as their typical properties and field of application. Operation and control of pumps based on the pumping system requirements is explained. Attention is also focused on cavitation in pumps, determination of net positive suction head and operational parameters, typical pump constructions, classification based on specific speed, etc.
Exercises are aimed to practical solution of fluid transport problems using the software EXCEL. Experimental measurement of performance curves under various operational conditions is also included.
