Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Objectives of the course: - Deepen understanding of rheology and flow of lubricants, - Apply this knowledge to the design of lubrication systems, - Design lubrication systems with grease - Design lubricating systems with oil for lubrication of plain and rolling bearings.

Summary

In the course Lubrication Technology graduate student learn about with the theoretical principles of friction, lubrication and wear. Dry, boundary and mixed friction is discussed only in the necessary depth necessary for an understanding of Stribeck diagram and its importance to the technical practice. More details is discussed fluid friction and lubrication theory of hydrodynamic sliding and hydrostatic bearings, foundations elastohydrodynamic friction and lubrication. Wear of machine parts is discussed only to the necessary depth, as well as construction materials and bearings. Lubricants are discussed in detail. U greases are dealt with the rheology of greases. in conclusion are discussed lubrication systems, either with oil or grease.
