Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Objective: The course aims to extend students' knowledge in multi-dimensional flow of incompressible and compressible fluids in laminar and turbulent regime, and especially on analytical methods of solutions and numerical solutions. Especially in case of the flow of compressible fluids there is specified mathematical model of time-dependent problem. An important application is the solution of wrap and resistance of bodies and fluid interaction with a rigid body.

Summary

Balance of mass and momentum, or energy. The balance equations in integral and differential form, equation of continuity, Navier-Stokes equations, theorem of change of momentum. Turbulence, Reynolds equation, correlation of rate fluctuations, spectral analysis of the kinetic energy of turbulence, dissipation equation. Boundary layer, velocity or temperature profiles Scalar transfer, turbulence models and numerical solution options. Some selected practical problems. Stability of the flow, vortex structures, wakes, secondary flows, fluid interaction with solid body, aeroelasticity. Euler turbine equation and its application in centrifugal machines. Wrap and resistance of bodies, aerodynamics.
