Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Repeat and expand the knowledge of the mechanics of elasticity bodies. The students gain of basic knowledge about possibilities of analysis of selected part of vehicles (frame, gear, shaft, etc.)

Subject syllabus:

1. Repeat the knowledge from Mechanics of Materials. 2. Combined loading of straight beams and bars. 3. Shear stress in bending, shear center 4. Curved beams 5. Thin – wall cylinder, thick – wall cylinder 6. Compound cylinder vessels. Rotating disks 7. Theory of elasticity 8. Stress concentration factor, introduction to fracture mechanics 9. Fatigue of materials 10. Numerical methods in mechanics, introduction to finite element method (FEM), 11. Introduction to finite element method, basic type of elements, element and global stiffness matrix, boundary conditions 12. Introduction to finite element method, singularities, errors in FEM 13. Experimental methods in mechanics 14. Dynamics and vibration
