Předmět navazuje na předchozí předmět Kolejová vozidla 1. V předmětu jsou vysvětleny v současnosti používané konstrukce a očekávané trendy ve vývoji. Předmět je členěn dle základních konstrukčních skupin kolejových vozidel a se zaměřením na hnací vozidla závislé i nezávislé trakce, osobní a nákladní vozy.
