Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the basic ideas and concepts in the field of logistics.
By completing this course, students should acquire the following skills:
- get acquainted with ideas and concepts in the field of logistics on a fundamental basis,
- acquire competencies and orientation in the field of Logistics.
By completing this course, students should be competent to:

Summary
In the course Logistics I - Basics of Logistics, students will get acquainted with the flows of goods, money and information both between the supplier and the customer, as well as within individual companies, including various inventory systems to optimize these flows to represent the lowest possible costs for the company.

Verification of study results for full-time and part-time study:
Credit: minimum 18 points, maximum 30 points.
1. The student prepares a seminar paper in the field of logistics = evaluated from 0 to 20 points. 2. The student prepares a search on the issue of logistic organization of the workplace = evaluated from 0 to 10 points.
Exam: minimum 33 points, maximum 70 points.
1. Discussion of seminar work and research = evaluated from 0 to 10 points.
2. Oral exam from two selected questions from the syllabus = evaluated from 0 to 60 points.

Subject syllabus:
1. Development of logistics, definition of logistics, tasks and subjects of logistics. Logistics goals. Importance of logistics in the field of transport, handling and storage.
2. Basic logistic concepts. Logistics system and its research. Logistics chains. Elements and connections of the system and their mathematical expression. System inputs and outputs. Static and dynamic system.
3. Distribution logistics. Objectives of distribution logistics. Reverse logistics and recycling. Mass flow intensity. Handling work.
4. Movement of matter: the driving force of the reproduction process. Logistic transformation of materials, information and energy. System approach and integrated concept of material and information flows.
5. Main logistic problems and their solutions. Production strategy. Just in Time method. KANBAN system.
6. Warehouse management, inventory creation.
7. Transported materials. Formulation and expression of a mathematical problem of transport.
8. Material flow. Transport performance for smooth and intermittent transport.
9. Business logistics. Material analysis, P-Q graph.
10. Informatics in logistics. Planning in logistics.
11. Packaging, palletizing and containerization. Distribution of handling equipment and systems.
12. Dimensioning of handling means and systems. Calculation of pallet usage and number of containers.
13. Logistics in material handling.
14. Transport: railway, automobile, ship, pipeline and air. Transport selection criteria and transport service providers. Calculation of costs for individual modes of transport. Comparison of modes of transport.
