Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The course is based on module 060 – Navigation.
The course acquaints students with basic concepts related to general navigation. They will also acquaint students with VFR and IFR procedures for determining the position and finding a suitable route for the flight and guiding the aircraft along it.

The student will acquire competencies in the field of navigation, which allows him to pass the PPL and ATPL exams at the Civil Aviation Authority in Prague.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester
The acquired knowledge of students is continuously verified during individual lessons in the form of discussion and questions with the aim of active involvement of students in teaching.
Students' knowledge is verified at the end of the semester by a written test and oral examination.

Subject syllabus:
1. The solar system, Globe shape, perimeter, and diameter.
2. Earth, the magnetic field of the earth, direction, angle, direction.
3. Coordinate networks. Latitude and longitude, change of latitude and longitude.
4. Large circle, small circle. Mathematical determination of the diameter of the rhumb line and orthodrome.
5. Magnetism, Convergence, Agona, Isogona.
6. Maps and cartographic projections.
7. Aerials maps – ICAO maps, Jeppesson maps.
8. Units, measurement of directions, and distances on aerial maps.
9. Time, time recalculation, and Time zones. Times - UTC, GMT, LNT, ZT.
10. Basic navigation concepts and elements of flight.
11. Comparative navigation.
12. Navigation by calculation. Navigation vector triangle - velocity triangle.
13. VFR and IFR flight planning.
14. Repetition, discussion, and consultation.
