Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The objective of this course is the control of the fluid power actuators – the pneumatic and hydraulic drives. The lectures are focused on the different kinds of control of hydraulic and pneumatic drives, on/off control using the flow directional valves, their connection to the control system and programming of the control system, design and realization of different control algorithms in dependence on the controlled technological process.

Summary

During the course students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of control systems for fluid power drives. They will be acquainted with basic concepts in the field of control, schematic symbols of pneumatic and hydraulic elements, sensors used in hydraulic and pneumatic drives with practical examples. They will also familiarize themselves with the elements for controlling the pressure, flow, direction of movement of the hydraulic motor (pneumatic motor) and the connection of these elements to the control system. Through the form of protocols, the students gain practical knowledge of the acquired knowledge.

Subject syllabus:

1. Subject content, basics from control, logical control, logic variables and operations. 2. Basic components and symbols of drawings, drawings of the pneumatic, hydraulic and control circuits. 3. Design of the control algorithm, description of the working cycle, description using function diagram, control chart and displacement – step diagram. 4. Sensors in the hydraulic and pneumatic drives, their connection to the control system. 5. Control of the hydraulic drives. Structure of the hydraulic power unit and their control. 6. Components for pressure control and for control of the direction of the movement of the hydraulic drive, connection to the control system. 7. Structure of the pneumatic circuit and components for pressure and flow control of the compressed air. 8. Pneumatic components with pneumatic control, design of the pneumatic control circuit. 9. Pneumatic components with electric control, design of the control circuit. 10. Valve terminals and programmable control systems. 11. Relay control, PLC. Design of the control for more axis drive. 12. Error analysis of the control circuits of the hydraulic and pneumatic drives. 13. The use of the fluid power drives in mechatronic systems. 14. Safety of the operation of the hydraulic and pneumatic drives.
