Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the subject is to acquaint students practically with the basic means and methods of monitoring objects with a focus on logistics in transport. The students will gradually get acquainted with GNSS-based systems, Inertial Navigation System, RFID, optical reading of bar code and QR codes, object image processing, RADAR and LIDAR.

Summary

The course practically acquaints students with the basic means and methods of monitoring objects with a focus on logistics in transport. Students will gradually get acquainted with GNSS-based systems, Inertial Navigation System, RFID, optical reading of bar code and QR codes, object image processing, RADAR and LIDAR.

Subject syllabus:

1. Introduction to the subject, means of automating logistics activities 2. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS: GPS, Galileo, Glonas), principles, limitations, receivers. 3. GNSS RTK – Issues of positioning accuracy and reliability, means and methods of positioning refinement. 4. Inertial navigation systems. Principles, strengths and disadvantages of inertial positioning systems. 5. Wireless location transmissions to monitoring systems and their protection and security. 6. Radio-frequency object identification (RFID), physical principle, technology strengths and disadvantages, means (readers, antennas, tags). 7. Optical methods to identify designated objects, bar and QR codes, strengths and disadvantages. 8. Processing Object Images, Advantages and Disadvantages, Introduction to Methods and Ways of Computer Image Processing 9. The means and conditions for recording an image, the types of cameras, chips, lenses. The effect of light conditions. 10. Tracking objects and surroundings with radar and lidar. Physical principles, strengths and disadvantages. 11. Introduction to the monitoring systems databases. SQL servers and relational databases. 12. Exchange of information in networks. XML language and DOM, XSL and XQUERY technologies. 13. Introduction to graph theory, search algorithms for the shortest route. 14. Granting credits.
