Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The ground level of the subject Fundamentals of Energy Processes is concentrate to the increase information about the energy transformation.
The all energy transformation will be used for explanation of the main principles.
The students will improve their knowledge about the effective use of energy.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester
Student gets credit after passing credit test with score of at least 51 points out of 100 possible.

Other requirements
Active participation, at least 80% (i.e. max. 2 absences per semester course) in exercises. Excursions are mandatory. If the student will be absent, he will prepare at least 5 pages of text on the topic that was the content of the excursion.

First lecture block: The energy conversion
1. Basic terms of energy - what is energy, work, heat. Transformation of energy, exergy.
2. Trends of energy consumption, energy sources and their basic properties, the current global energy issues.
3. History of energy technology, the power of water, wind, ...
4. The history of steam power
II. lecture block: The energy systems and energy production
5. Fuels and their types, preparation for energy transformation.
6. Combustion equipments, fossil energy sources and processes of their use
7. Compressors, turbines, combustion engines and their use in industry (transport, aviation)
8. Specifics of nuclear energy
III. Lecture session: Renewable energy sources and processes of their use
9. Solar energy, heat pumps, HVAC of buildings
10. Water and wind energy, geothermal energy
11. Biomass energy
12. Energy of waste
IV. lecture block: Influence of energy on the environment and other topics
13. The quality of the environment, energy impacts on water, soil and air
14. Advantages, disadvantages and the use of energy processes. Combined energy processes.
