Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will learn to understand the structure and content of an external influences determination protocol and develop an operating procedure for an assessment area. They will be able to practically design and size an external and internal lightning protection system. They will learn both to design the earthing system and earthing of buildings and to implement protection measures inside buildings, including the design and sizing of surge arresters.

Summary

The course deals with the characterization of space according to external influences for the purpose of electric shock assessment, which is important for the design of electrical distribution, electrical equipment and technologies and their revision. It also deals with the broad issue of the design of lightning protection of buildings and structures and the risk analysis required for their level of protection with respect to lightning hazards. The course also includes calculations related to the design and sizing of external and internal lightning protection systems, familiarisation with supporting software tools for complex design and sizing of lightning protection and experimental measurement of lightning protection.
