Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students have wide knowledge in area of transient effects in electric machines and devices. Students are able to simulate of transient effects by the help of ATP-EMTP software.

Summary

This subject should give the students of 4th year of the magister degree of the university education the comprehensive knowledge of transient effects on electrical machines and apparatus. In practices the students learn to create and to applicate equivalent diagrams of switches, lines, various types of loads etc. for the solution of the transient effects by means of the EMTP - ATP software. New methods of the transient effects modelling increase the effectiveness of the solution of practical engineering problems.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Conditions for credit: Student has to work out laboratory works and final test. To pass the laboratory part the student must to get at least 25points (40points max) from the laboratory excercises.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: Program EMTP-ATP, using, basic structure, solving and post-processing. Simulation of transient effects in switching-on at 3ph supply network. Simulation of transient effects in switching-off at 3ph supply network. Influence of power network and extiguisher at switching-off operation in alternative current circuits (deformation of current by resistivity of electric arc, breaking of inductive current) Influence of power network and extiguisher at switching-off operation in alternative current circuits (switching-off capacitance current, short-line fault) Simulation of power lines and cables by Line/Cable constants Equivalent circuit diagram of transformer. Equivalent circuit diagram of turning-motion machines. Contactless switching, control circuits, simulating of rectifiers. Simplification of electric circuits, post-processing. Projects: Students will make project of transient effect model. Computer labs: Introduction to ATP-EMTP software, pre-processing, solving and post-processing. Simulation of transient effects in switching-on operation. Simulation of transient effects in switching-off operation. Simulation of circuits with distributed and lumped parameters. Deformation of current by resistivity of electric arc. Simulation of direct current switching-off. Simulation of power lines and cables by Line/Cable constants. Simulation of unsymetric loadings. Simulation of electric motors. Simulation of transformers, BCTRAN. Simulation of circuits with semiconductors.
