Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

In this class student will learn to describe the equipment of different types of power stations, will understand their functioning and operating. Student will be able exhibit engineering thinking concerning problems that can occure in operating power station.

Summary

This class is focused on specific areas from classical and nuclear power stations, deeling with alternator transient, protection of alternator, primary, secondary and tercial regulation. The new findings in the area of renewable resources are discussed as well.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: Operation of conventional power plants and their machinery and electrical equipment Operation of nuclear power plants and their machinery and electrical equipment Equipment and operation of small hydro and wind power plants Fuel cells, accumulation of power Transient phenomenon of alternators - stability Selected alternator protections Primary, secondary and tertiary control Control of power system at the power station Alternator operation in island mode Trends in electricity generation Exercise: Auxiliary hydraulic systems - turbo-feeding pump, pumping device, pump for conveying condensate and condenser. Auxiliary ventilation systems - air, induced draft and flue fans. Back-up accumulator systems and back-up generators - accumulators, UPS systems, Diesel-Generators. Laboratory: Measurement of non-traditional electricity source efficiency. Technical excursion: Power plant Dětmarovice Projects: Design of power station.
