Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Passing the subject student is able to define basic electrical power terms, explain basic techniques of calculation of exercise, these apply to more complex problems and discuss achieved results from the area of electrical power engineering - production of electricity and its conversion to heat and light.

Summary

The subject deals with problems of electricity production in several types of power plants. It also cover problems of electricity usage in form of heat and light.

Lectures: Fundamental electricity terms, balance of electricity production and consumption and types of power plants. Condensation power plants and thermal power plants. Fundamentals of nuclear power. Renewable energy sources, fuel cells and the environment. Energy storage. Electrical part of power plants. Electrical machinery and appliances. Power distribution systems. Design of electrical and electronic equipment, safety. Electromagnetic compatibility. Heat transfer. Fundamentals of heating. Industrial heating. Fundamental terms in lighting technology. Light sources, luminaires. Lighting systems. Exercises: Fundamental energy terms (systems, load diagram). Energy balances of condensation power plants. Energy balances of nuclear power plants. Energy balances of hydropower plants. Heat transfer. Characteristics and parameters of heat generating appliances. Heat pumps. Energy savings. Fundamentals of lighting technology. Parameters of light sources and luminaires. Calculations of energy consumption of luminaires. Credit. Laboratory: Electricity consumption, comparison of different appliances in different modes.
