Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Current practice in the power engineering shows an increasing use of computers for measurement of various data, their processing and graphical presentation. The use of automated measuring stations, devices for controlling technological units and monitoring their functions is beginning to increase. After completing the course, the student will be able to apply the knowledges of diagnostic measurements in scientific work in the field of electric power engineering. The student will acquire the use of different types of measuring systems and the design of measurement methodology, including the processing of measured data, and demonstrate the ability to independently design measurement methodology and evaluate the measurements made.

Summary

Current practice in the power engineering requires the use of computers for measurements, including their processing and presentation. Automated measuring systems, devices for controlling technological units and monitoring their functions are used. The course includes advanced principles of technical diagnostics. Types of measured signals and their treatment and processing are discussed. The course also deals with sampling, designing a measurement methodology, creating a measurement diagram and how to connect the apparatus to the measured object. The course also includes chapters on the collection, transmission and processing of measured data, presentation of results, computer control of measuring instruments and practical problem solving. The basic equipment for teaching this subject consists of special apparatus and instruments used by the Department of Electrical Power Engineering in its own experimental and research work. These are top equipment of companies such as Brüel & Kjaer, Tectronix, Elcom, a.s., EGÚ Brno. After completing the course, the student will be able to apply the problems of diagnostic measurements in scientific work in the field of electric power engineering. The student will master the use of various types of measuring systems and the design of measurement methodology including the processing of measured data and will be able to independently design a measurement methodology and evaluate the measurements made.
