Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The purpose of the subject is to obtain and to develope knowledge providing good orientation in area of electrical drives of railway vehicles.

Summary

The course acquaints students with the basic principles of semiconductor components and their use in static power converters. The subject focuses on the basic knowledge of operations of power semiconductor converters and the possibility of applications in electrical drives in railway vehicles. The emphasis on understanding the basic principles of the regulation of various types of electrical drives. The content of the course is based on knowledge of the foundations of the theory of electrical engineering and electronics.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

Conditions for credit: Obligatory participation in laboratory exercises In general 4 laboratory exercises are assessed max. 5 points, i. e. max. 20 points from laboratory exercises Obligatory finishing of 2 tests in regular term. Test is assessed max. 10 points, i. e. max. 20 points from tests. At repetition test is assessed only 80% achieved points. Student can obtain from exercises max. 40 points, for conferment inclusion it is necessary achieve min. 25 points

Lectures: A summary of the foundations of electronics, semiconductor components function. Power semiconductor devices. Diode. Power semiconductor devices. Switching transistors. Theory of power semiconductor converters, rectifiers. Theory of power semiconductor converters, DC/DC converters. Theory of power semiconductor converters, inverters. Theory of power semiconductor converters, frequency converters. DC motors, principles DC drives AC motors, principles AC drives Application of electric drives in railway wehicles. Princilles of regulation, sensors. Application of electric drives in railway wehicles in the world. Exercises: Revision of the foundations of electrical engineering and electronics. Rectifiers DC/DC converters Inverters Frequency converters. Test 1 DC motors AC motors Principles of regulation Application of electric drives Test 2 Repetition, tuition, revisions of tests, duplicate laboratory example. Laboratories: Measurement of rectifiers Measurement of DC/DC converters Measurement of inverters Measurement of frequency converters Projects: Results Processing of laboratory exercises -Laboratory exercise No.1 - No.4
