Define the basic blocks of radio communication chain. Describe principles of radio signals propagation. Recognise the methods and means of modern digital radio communications.

The basic aim of the course is to familiar with the basic blocks of radio communication chain and principles of radio signals propagation.

It is necessary to get to the end of the semester at least 22 points. • quiz - a total of 10 points • 6 laboratory measurements - 24 points • 1 semester project (or quiz 2) - 10 points • exam (total 54 points), written part (50 points) + oral part (6 points)

Subject syllabus:

Theoretical part: 1) Introduction to radio communications. 2) Basic concepts, variables used in radio communication, spectrum allocation. 3) Softwares in radio-communication. 4) Maxwell eq., frčequency spectrum, radiosignals. 5) Radio waves in free space, the main types of radio waves, radio waves propagation. 6) The base scheme of radio communication, signal processing. Source encoding, codecs, radio channel. 7) Channel coding, multiply access. 8) Analog modulation. 9) Digital modulation. 10)Antennas I - principles, basic characteristics. 11)Antennas II - basic types, properties and construction. 12)Antennas III - special types, antennae, EH antenna, magnetic antenna. 13)Antenna matching. 14)OK2KQM HAM VSB. Exercise: Seminars: 1) Introductory lesson. 2) The basic variables used in radio engineering, radio communications equation. 3) Parameters of antennas and power, calculating the adjustment to the antenna feeder. 4) Quiz 1 5) Working with software and MMan Smith. Measurements: 6) Introduction to Measure No.1-6 7) Laboratory Measurement 1 - Measurement of input impedance of the antenna. 8) Laboratory measurements of 2 - Measurement of RF feeder velocity ratio. 9) Laboratory measurements of 3 - Measurement of gain and characteristics of directional antennas. 10) Laboratory measurements of 4 - Measurement of parameters of the coaxial cable. 11) Laboratory measurements of 5 - Measurement of impedance matching. 12) Laboratory measurements of 5 - Measurement of attenuation of RF connector. 13) Alternative exercise.
