Summary
The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with principles of switching systems. In the introduction the distinct generations of switching systems are described starting with Strowger switch and ending with time-based switch of 4G digital telephone exchanges. In the next part the general concept of IP multimedia systems is introduced and the general principles of switching in GSM/UMTS networks are described. This is followed by the practical experiments with openBTS project in the exercises.
