Students will learn how to measure the transmission parametrs of communication optical communication lines and compare parameters of the measuring instruments.

1. Basic manipulation with measurement devices; safety while working with LASERs; connecting optical fibers.
2. Attenuation measurements I
3. Attenuation measurements II
4. Influence of macro- and micro-bending losses on attenuation.
5. Chromatic dispersion measurements.
6. Reflectometric measurements of attenuation profile.
7. Optical fiber amplifiers.
8. Spectral and polarisation characteristics of MM and SM optical fibers.
9. Spectral-power characteristics of LED and LD.
10. Polarisation-power characteristics of LED and LD.
