Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Understand the structure, design and function of the radio network. Learning outcomes are set so that students are able to identify, apply and solve problems in the field of cellular radio networks.

Summary

Students will be familiar with the structure and principle of mobile radio networks. Attention will be given to voice and data communication.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1. Introduction to mobile radio networks, radio propagation in mobile networks. 2. Mobile Systems of the 1st generation, 2nd generation mobile systems (IS54, IS95, cdmaOne, PDC, iDEN, GSM). GSM system - architecture. 3. GSM system (GSM channels, modulation, multiple access, duplex, frequency bands, burst, power-time template, frame structure, frequency hopping, time and frequency synchronization, a measurement report, DRX, power control). 4. Signal processing in GSM system (source coding, channel coding, interleaving), information, security (SIM card, authentication, encryption - using TMSI, algorithms A3, A5 and A8) services in GSM (transmission, telematics, optional , value-added), localization in mobile networks. 5. GSM System (GSM data transmission CSD, HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE). 6. Mobile systems of 3rd generation - UMTS (introduction to UMTS, IMT, standardization, frequency bands, architecture). 7. UMTS physical layer (modulation technique, WCDMA, the concept of CHIP, channelization and scrambling code, macrodiversity). 8. UMTS System (CS domain, PS domain, protocols, and channels, signaling, Ec/Io, RSCP, handover). 9. HSPA, HSPA+, HARQ, CQI, multi-carrier. 10. Mobile Systems of 4th generation -LTE/SAE (architecture, physical layer, eUTRAN, OFDM, MIMO). 11. Radio Resource Allocation (RRC) in LTE/SAE, the cyclic prefix, the properties of the radio channel synchronization. 12. Protocol architecture of LTE/SAE (logical, transport and physical channels, channel mapping). 13. The further development of mobile systems (LTE Advanced Pro, LTE-B, C-LTE), systems of 5th generation, new trends in mobile radio networks. 14. Construction of base stations for GSM, UMTS and LTE/SAE (legislation, technology, antenna systems, hygienic limits, optimization). Laboratories: 1. Introduction to subject, familiarization with equipment in laboratory, safety in laboratory, credits. 2. Introduction to laboratory measurements No. 1 - 5 3. Laboratory measurement No.1. - Analysis of the identifiers in the GSM and UMTS phone via the service menu (NetMonitor, Cell Track, FieldTest). 4. Laboratory measurement No.2. - Analysis of GSM signaling using the system R&S TS5X-K1. 5. Laboratory measurement No.3. - Analysis of CS connections in GSM using the analyzer R&S CMU200. 6. Laboratory measurement No.4. - Analysis of the Physical Layer in GSM with a spectrum analyzer R&S FSP-3 7. Laboratory measurement No.5. - Analysis of the physical layer of mobile communication systems using CDMA and WCDMA Analyzer R&S FSH-8. 8. Quiz, introduction to laboratory measurements No. 6 - 10 9. Laboratory measurement No.6. - Analysis of CS connection in WCDMA using the analyser R&S CMU200. 10. Laboratory measurement No.7. - Localization in mobile networks. 11. Laboratory measurement No.8. - Optimization and analysis of traffic in mobile networks using the system R&S ROMES4. 12. Laboratory measurement No.9. - Analysis of identifiers in GSM, UMTS and LTE using the Ascom TEMS tool. 13. Laboratory measurement No.10. - Measuring the power level of BTS, proposal and optimization of BTS coverage. 14. Spare lecture.
