Understand the structure, concept, and function of a mobile radio network. Learning outcomes are set so that students can identify, apply, and solve problems in the field of mobile radio networks.

Summary
Students will be acquainted with the structure and principle of mobile radio networks 2nd - 5th generation. Attention will be paid to both voice and data communication, and we will get acquainted with development trends in the field.

Subject syllabus:
Lectures:
- Introduction to mobile radio networks, propagation of radio waves in mobile networks, frequency allocation.
- Mobile systems of the 1st generation - NMT, mobile system of the 2nd generation - the GSM system (architecture, physical layer, burst, power-time template, time and frequency synchronization, measurement report, localization in GSM, data transmissions GPRS/EDGE).
- Mobile systems of the 3rd generation - the UMTS system (architecture, physical layer, the concept of CHIP channelization and scrambling code, macrodiversity, radio channel measurement, calculation of Ec/Io, RSCP, HSPA, HSPA+, HARQ, CQI, multi carrier technique).
- Mobile systems of the 4th generation - LTE system (architecture, physical layer eUTRAN, OFDM, SC-FDMA).
- LTE system (fast scheduling, cyclic prefix, radio channel properties, calculation of RSRP, RSRQ, synchronization).
- LTE system (protocol architecture, channel mapping, LTE Advanced Rel. 14, MIMO, Carrier Aggregation, VoLTE).
- 5th generation mobile systems - 5G system (SBA, NSA, SA architecture, network slicing, differences compared to LTE).
- 5G system – NR physical layer (frequency bands FR1-FR2, mapping, scalable OFDM, CORESET, Massive MIMO).
- 5G system (protocol architecture, non-roaming and home-routed architecture, VoNR, VoWiFi), new trends in mobile networks (open solutions using openRAN, openAirInterface, OpenStack, Open Networking Foundation), 6G.
- Construction of a base station for mobile systems (used technologies, antenna system, legislation, hygienic limits, optimization, measurement of interference, interference).
- Functional blocks of high frequency technology, structural elements of high frequency technology, systems for radio positioning and interference targeting.
- Excursion to the mobile operator's base station and TV transmitter.

- Content of exercises, familiarization with laboratory equipment, point evaluation, safety training.

- Laboratory task no. 1 - Measuring the power level on the radio part of the base station
- Laboratory task No. 2 - Signaling analysis in GSM using the R&S TS5X-K1 tool.
- Laboratory task No. 3 - Localization in mobile networks.
- Laboratory task No. 4 - CS analysis of GSM technology connection using the R&S CMU-200 analyzer.
- Laboratory task No. 5 - Measurement of LTE technology radio channel parameters using a measuring phone with the TEMS Pocket application
- Laboratory task No. 6 - Analysis of the 5G NR radio interface using the Keysight Nemo Outdoor 5G tool
- Laboratory task No. 7 - Analysis of the physical layer in GSM using the spectrum analyzer R&S FSP-3
- Laboratory task No. 8 - Analysis of the physical layer of LTE and 5G NR using the R&S FSH-8 analyzer.
